Some thoughts on Charity Events:

I really enjoyed teaching the yoga class at Affirmation’s Yoga Studio for the Summer’s Hope Yoga Event. Fourteen people turned up, making the day a successful fundraiser as well as an enjoyable experience. Including a few people who could not attend but donated anyway, we raised $450. I have to say, though, that I had expected a lot more people to come to this event, just because I know how giving Americans are when it comes to supporting anyone in need.

Considering this, I realized how many causes are being presented to us on a daily basis, asking for our participation and/or financial support. We are asked to donate to victims of disasters both domestically and world-wide, to professionally run organizations raising money to find a cure for almost every disease known to humanity, to religious organizations, hospitals, political groups, etc. It can be overwhelming, especially when the economy is not that good and we are not sure what our own future might be financially. Sometimes I balk at donating to big charity organizations, knowing that a large percentage of my donation will go to promotions, etc.

My only suggestion is to keep your heart open, do some research on what percent of your donation will actually go toward helping those who need your support, and even if you can’t afford a large donation, remember that even a few dollars from many people can add up. And if you can't donate money, donate some of your time to a cause that speaks to your heart.

Namaste
